Windows: WhatsApp now available on the desktop

WhatsApp has launched a desktop client service called WhatsApp Web that allows users to chat and send messages. The new service is currently available on Google Chrome browser.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp says that the service will be a mirror and would require an Internet connected phone to work. In a company blog post WhatsApp says, "Our web client is simply an extension of your phone: the web browser mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device -- this means all of your messages still live on your phone."

To use the web browser users have to go to https://web.whatsapp.com on their Google Chrome browser. The website will display a QR code which users need to scan to start messaging. WhatsApp says that users have to keep there phone connected to the web and must have the latest version of WhatsApp.
WhatsApp says that the messaging service currently works with Google's Chrome browser only and will not be available to iPhone users "due to Apple platform limitations."
